This follows De Klerk’s resignation last week as the executive director and financial director of Exxaro, a position which he has held since 2009.
De Klerk will replace former ArcelorMittal South Africa Paul O’Flaherty, who stepped down last year February.
De Klerk has over 30 years working experience in the audit, tax, steel, titanium and mining industries, having spent the last 15 years in various executive positions.
On joining Iscor in 1996, De Klerk managed Iscor Quarries and the Grootegeluk mine. He became a member of the executive team as group GM for strategy and continuous improvement in 1999.
During his tenure at Kumba Resources, he was responsible for the mineral sands operations and after Exxaro listed in 2006 became executive GM for mineral sands and base metals in 2008 until his appointment as finance director in 2009.
