Eskom’s Acting CEO Brian Molefe to open African Utility Week as Cape Town becomes Africa’s energy capital this week

The newly-appointed acting CEO of Eskom, Brian Molefe, will deliver the keynote address on Tuesday 12 May, the opening day of the upcoming African Utility Week at the CTICC in Cape Town. “The industry has welcomed the appointment of Mr Molefe during a challenging time in the sector and we are honoured that he has chosen African Utility Week to share his vision for our energy future” says event director Evan Schiff. “We also look forward to welcoming some 5000 power and water professionals to our conference and exhibition and turn the Mother City into Africa’s energy capital for this week”. The opening keynote session on Tuesday starts at 09h30.

The event also features 250 exhibitors, 190 speakers, eight conferences, free technical workshops on the expo floor, three high-profile plenary sessions and the coveted industry awards gala dinner. Admission to the expo is free and features the latest technology and solutions in generation, metering, smart grids, water and renewable energy such as solar and wind.

Utility CEO Forum
Mr Molefe will also attend the Utility CEO Forum at African Utility Week where he will meet with African counterparts from countries such as Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Ghana, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is the only African forum where C-level executives from Africa’s leading utilities come together to discuss pressing topics within the industry and to accelerate cross-border collaboration, development plans and the advancement of regional centres of excellence throughout Africa.

Eskom is a longstanding partner of African Utility Week. The Department of Energy recently also committed to a three-year partnership with the conference and exhibition while US President Barack Obama’s Power Africa initiative is the event’s country partner. The City of Cape Town is the host city.

Leading television news channel eNCA will broadcast live from the event.
