The April edition of Mining Review Africa pays tribute to this with just one word: technology. It has become crystal clear to me that technology can unlock the doors to operating viability and could be a saving grace for South Africa’s mining sector in particular: it is desperate for transitional change as it looks to unlock low grade, uneconomic ore bodies to ensure long-term livelihood. When coupled with mechanisms to deliver ‘lean and mean’ operations, a large percentage of mining projects will find themselves in financially stable situations, regardless of economic and financial circums
