[South Africa’s] mining sector has reached a crossroads and requires some major decisions, including much needed buy-in from all stakeholders. Without it I’m certain the medium to long-term impacts of bad decisions and messy legislation will leave the industry in shadow.

I had the privilege this month of interviewing Kenya’s new (relatively) Mining Cabinet Secretary Hon. Dan Kazungu following the country’s recent introduction of a new Mining Act. While I consider it an honour to chat exclusively to any mining ministry official, I found this interview to be particularly fascinating.

This is one cabinet secretary who is making his mark, a positive one, and I admire him for his approach, tenacity and determination to do right by his country – and mining could be that potential country game changer – for Kenya and East Africa as well
