The Engineer Manager is a 2.13.1 appointment in terms of the Mine’s Health and Safety Act, who is accountable for effectively managing and delivering of the Business Unit engineering function to ensure optimum performance according to business requirements, organisational objectives and sound engineering practice.Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing a dedicated focus on maintaining and improving safety, maintenance and engineering standards and procedures to the business unit
  • Manage and reduce operational and business risk from an Engineering and Asset management perspective
  • Manage the capital processes and assets of the business unit in line with Corporate Governance requirements
  • Controls financial resources allocated for Engineering and maintenance activities i.e. budgeting and expenditure vs forecast
  • Ensures all Risk Management Processes & Procedures are adhered to
  • Establishes and ensures compliance with legislative requirements and engineering technical standards and codes of practice e.g. Rail Bound Equipment, Trackless Mobile Machinery etc.
  • Ensures functionality of facilities and requirements with regards to Change Houses, Lamp Rooms, detecting and measuring equipment
  • Search for improved methods, technology and automation
    by engaging with stakeholders

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Electrical (Heavy Current) Engineering
  • Government Certificate of Competency Mines & Works
  • 13 – 15 years’ experience in the gold and/or platinum mining industry
  • 5 years operational experience on a management level on a business unit
  • Valid Certificate of Fitness or the ability to obtain one
