HSE Superintendent (HSE / Environmental / Mining / DRC / OHSAS)

Job Description: CA Mining Mining Review Africa
The HSE Superintendent will be reporting to the General Manager, with functional reporting to the Group Environmental Manager. They will be required to co-ordinate, support and advise the Company on all aspects regarding Occupational Health, Safety and Environment. They will also establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with HSE are adhered to.


  • Ensure that internal policies and procedures align to the international standard OHSAS 18001
  • Ensure the Company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to environmental, health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting (specifically with the Labour and Mining Law)
  • Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented
  • Ensure that HSE inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and working procedures are managed and employees are aware of their responsibilities
  • Establish a full programme of documented HSE inspections, audits and checks
  • Liaise with the Group Environmental Manager to ensure there is good contact with external HSE consultants in the provision of training programmes and services
  • Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant HSE & welfare at work and communicate relevant changes to the business

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • 5-10 years working experience in the same or similar role
  • A tertiary OHS qualification
  • Must have excellent knowledge of the Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety regulations
  • Must have a good knowledge of DRC Mining Law and Regulations
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and fluent in French
  • A valid driver’s license
  • DRC nationals strongly preferred
