Job Description: 

Our Client is seeking a Mine Planning Engineer to compile an effective mine production plan and liaise with the operations team to ensure the effective outcome of the mine plan.


  • Ensure accurate planning in accordance to the Mine, Health and Safety Act and directed at achieving goals and targets
  • Review and refine planning block outlines where required to ensure practical and efficient design
  • Update block plans according to additional information and ensure that these updated plans are compliant with the budgeted costs and the long-term plan including the positions of haul roads, electrical and water networks etc.
  • Liaise with operations personnel to ensure accurate understanding of mine planning requirements
  • Ensure that the outcomes of the mine plan reflect the business requirements in terms of budgeted targets, quality environment and safety
  • Track the progress of the mine plan in terms of the achieving the business plan and make recommendations to keep the mine plan aligned with the business plan
  • Assist in tracking and reporting of production costs and efficiencies
  • Assist with pit designs to ensure that final and intermediate pits are practically designed to achieve scheduling objectives
  • Ensure that block designs are planned in accordance with the mine health and safety act as well as the mines SOP’s and that they consider hauling distance and proximity to mine infrastructure
  • Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment where employees can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • B.Sc. Science honours Degree in Mining Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years open pit planning experience
  • 1-year experience at a middle management level
  • Blasting certificate
