Job Description: 

This person is responsible for the Execution of Exploration program & safety of the mining and mineral processing operations on the vessel at all times.

The person is responsible and has the authority for ensuring that all legislation and regulations pertaining to the mining operations are complied with onboard, and that orders issued by authorities, classification society, and concession holders in this regard, are complied with and carried out.

They are responsible for the management of all activities onboard the offshore mining vessel pertaining to the mining and mineral processing operations and acts as Companies officially appointed “Mine Manager” for the vessel in terms of the South African & Namibian mining legislation. He will have all vested authority assigned to them as outlined in the respective regulations.

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage the mining operations in accordance with the official operational procedures as Namibian or South African legislation dictates utilizing the organisational structure on board and the support services onshore
  • Daily Communications with head office
  • Manage daily reporting by all departments and transmission of data to Head Office

  • Planning of mining operations in conjunction with the Operations Manager and Geology Dept
  • Liaise with all sub-contractors working onboard to ensure that planned results are obtained
  • Plan, schedule & liaise with HR Department on all crew change activities and rosters
  • Maintain and improve safety of the mining operation as dictated by statutory and company requirements
  • Maintain and improve the procedures and security requirements for the removal & transfer of product
  • Co-ordinating environmental responsibilities (Compliance to the Environmental Management Plan) in conjunction with directions of the Environmental Manager
  • Responsible to ensure that the Plant is fully operational and well maintained
  • Regular Audits to be done in conjunction with maintenance to ensure optimal processing requirements are being met.

Requirements:Qualification and Skill 

  • Tertiary qualification in dredging, mining, engineering or minerals processing
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience at senior management level
  • Must hold Managerial background and proven record of these attributes
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of local labour legislation and procedural requirements for South Africa & Namibia
  • Offshore experience
  • Fully conversant with Windows NT and associated MS Office programs
  • Daily schedule:  12 hours continuous
