Project Engineer – Plant Utilities (Mechanical Engineering / Utilities / Metallurgy / Chemical Engineering)

The Project Engineer will provide direct output and support to the Project Manager (Utilities).


  • Contribute to the overall success of the Project (within set timeframes, scope & budget) with a specific focus across the Utilities stream and related functions using a sound financial and quality control approach so as to continuously optimize & sustain value
  • Developing and optimizing the Flotation & Dewatering scope of work in by monitoring and implementing the plant civils test work strategy
  • Perform a key role in project planning and management including budgeting, and identification of resources needed
  • Provide guidance in the Utilities stream by anticipating current and future risks and mitigating these. In addition identify impacting risks across the project packages and escalate issues
  • Building a productive project culture through effective people management and team building
  • Assist with perform benchmarking for best  practices in flotation and dewatering and implement relevant findings for the project

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Tertiary qualification in Extractive Metallurgy , Process Engineering or Chemical Engineering from a recognized institution
  • Post graduate qualification in Financial and/or Project Management is preferred
  • At least 5 years’ large project mining experience is required
  • 4-8 years industry experience with exposure to ideally both operational and technical environments
  • Sound knowledge of relevant utilities and related design principles
  • Experience gained in any previous technical optimization and/or design role would be advantageous
  • Working knowledge of MHSA and relevant South African environmental regulations
  • Computer literacy
