Mozambican daily newspaper Notícias reports that a meeting organised by the Nacala Development Corridor (CDN) and the Nacala Integrated Logistics Corridor (CLIN), noted that the so-called Nacala Corridor included a railroad and port, and was expected to require investment of US$4.3 billion.
Macauhub News Agency reports that India and other countries in Asia, Europe and South America are the potential markets for coal mined in Moatize, which will be exported through the Nacala-a-Velha terminal.
To ensure that coal mined in Tete can be transported to the coast, and to improve conditions to transport passengers and general cargo along the Nacala corridor, repair work is underway along some sections while others are in the process of being constructed.
The 912km line crosses through 235km of neighbouring Malawi, 135km of which are also being built from scratch.
The trains that will carry the coal between Moatize and Nacala-a-Velha will be an average of 1,500m long, consisting of more than 100 trucks per train pulled by four engines.
