The unprotected strike at Harmony Gold Mining Company's (Harmony Gold) Kusasalethu ended on Friday, 24 March.

This followed discussions between senior management of Harmony Gold and the senior leadership of  the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU).

“I am pleased that the matter has been resolved and that operations at Kusasalethu will return to normality. Today the parties demonstrated that they are willing and able to put their differences aside in the best interests of our
employees and their families,” said Harmony Gold CEO.

The illegal strike commenced on Thursday, 23 March and was in response to the suspension of AMCU branch leadership.

This followed AMCU’s branch leadership encouraging an illegal go slow at the mine, resulting in only 25% of the workforce reporting for work the day before.

The illegal go slow was called in response to the disciplinary procedures against 40 employees, following the illegal sit-in at the mine in January this year.
