World Gold Council chief executive, Aram Shishmanian, said that the membership of the World Gold Council is made up of the world’s leading and most forward thinking gold mining companies and welcomed Sibanye Gold – largest individual producer of gold in South Africa and one of the 10 largest globally.

Commenting on this, Sibanye Gold CEO Neal Froneman said that the sustainability of its business and ability to deliver value to stakeholders is dependent on continued and growing demand for gold. “As such, we need to ensure that there is a strong market for our products and by joining the World Gold Council we hope to play a greater role in securing and developing the demand for gold.”

Meanwhile, OceanaGold Corporation, a rapidly growing multinational gold producer with assets located in the Philippines, New Zealand and the United States also joined the World Gold Council.
