Victaulic, a global specialist in mechanical pipe joining systems, will showcase its latest flame free pipe joining technology developed specifically for the mining market at Electra Mining Botswana this year.

Victaulic QuickVic Installation-Ready flexible and rigid couplings install up to 10 times faster than other joining methods and are delivered to the job site ready to install, without the requirement to first disassemble then reassemble the coupling to complete the joint. The coupling can simply be pushed onto the pipe ends as a single unit, and tightened with an impact wrench or a standard hand tool. This speeds up installation, providing an even more efficient way to join pipe.

As a cold formed joint, mechanical pipe joints eliminate the need for hotworks and open flames on site, increasing job site safety. No loose parts to drop or lose reduces material handling and in turn reduces risk during installation.

“Installation-ready couplings are designed for rapid installation, and promise even greater efficiencies,” says Barry van Jaarsveld, Victaulic regional manager Africa. “Victaulic is focused on providing innovative solutions for the mining industry and owners, contractors, and engineers will benefit not only from time savings, but also from cost savings, safety improvements and greater ease of use.”

Reliable and fast

At Electra Mining Botswana, Victaulic will display the industry’s only Installation-Ready coupling for joining shouldered steel pipe, alongside a range of other innovative solutions.

Style SC77 flexible coupling for shouldered steel pipe is ideal for abrasive services where maintaining full pipe-wall thickness is important. Style SC77 comes preassembled to permit fast installation that doesn’t require hot works or an open flame. Available with a galvanized housing and Grade “T” Nitrile gasket, the coupling is ideal for petroleum, oil and air services, and anywhere that corrosion concerns exist.

“Installation-Ready technology is the fastest and safest pipe-joining method currently available,” adds van Jaarsveld. “It addresses the industry’s need to compress project schedules and remain competitive.”

Tested technology

Victaulic Installation-Ready couplings have now been installed in numerous locations around the world, including Boschman’s Colliery and Implat’s No. 16 Shaft in South Africa.

With fewer steps to install, the result is consistently faster pipe joints and reduced piping installation time, which allows crew sizes to be optimized while meeting or beating project schedules. Time is saved during initial installation as well as system retrofit, and downtime reduced during system maintenance.

Visitors to the Victaulic stand at Electra Mining Botswana will be able to discover a full range of time and labour saving Victaulic products, including a sneak peak at new HDPE joining solutions from Victaulic.

“We are very excited to be at Electra Mining Botswana and the 2015 show will see new products designed to save the industry both money and time,” concludes van Jaarsveld. “Victaulic invests heavily in research and development, and the results are having a major impact on the market.”
