Pretoria, South Africa — MININGREVIEW.COM — 23 January, 2008 – Bernard Swanepoel – CEO of Harmony Gold until his sudden departure last August – has re-emerged in another senior position in the mining industry.
Swanepoel has been appointed to the board of Mintails Limited as a non-executive director. Mintails – an Australian-listed company with management and operations in South Africa – processes and recovers gold and uranium from surface tailings resources present on the East and West Rand of the Witwatersrand Basin.
“Serving in this role, Mr Swanepoel will add substantial value by enhancing the internal strategic capacity of Mintails,” the company announced here today. “Mr Swanepoel will focus on Mintails’ strategic growth initiatives, the options available to increase group value, and optimisation of the current asset portfolio,” it added.”The appointment of Mr Swanepoel is part of Mintails’ strategy to develop its internal capabilities in line with the company’s growth potential.”
Mr. Swanepoel is currently the founder and director of To the Point Growth Specialists – a
consulting firm providing companies in the mining industry with advice on growth strategies.
He sits on the advisory boards of both the Wits Business School and the Pretoria University’s mining engineering department, and is also a non”executive director of ARM Limited and Sanlam Limited.
