James Gowans
 
Saskatoon, Canada — MININGREVIEW.COM — 29 May 2009 – Cameco Corporation – one of the world’s largest uranium producers – has announced the election of De Beers Canada president and CEO James Gowans as one of two new board members.

Making the announcement here, the company confirmed that Gowans and the other new director, Donald Deranger, would replace Harry Cook and John Auston, who have retired from their positions on the board.

Gowans is currently on the board of DeBeers Canada, chairman of the Mining Association of Canada, and president of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum.
 
A graduate of the University of British Columbia’s mineral engineering programme, he has also attended the Banff School of Advanced Management. During his career in the mining industry, he previously served as senior vice-president and COO of nickel producer PT Inco in Indonesia from 2002 to 2006.
