Coal road map progress

In March 2010 the SA Coal Road Map (SACRM), having the approval of the South African Department of Energy (DoE), established a board with representatives from the South African government (DoE), Exxaro, Anglo American, South Africa’s National Energy Association (SANEA), Sasol, Eskom, the Council for Geosciences and consulting services to the South African coal industry.

A steering committee has also been established, comprising representatives of the above organisations and other stakeholders in the SA coal industry. The Fossil Fuel Foundation of Africa has been appointed as administrator and the South African National Energy Research Institute (SANERI) as financial manager of the SACRM.

It is intended to appoint a project manager who will develop the Roadmap in conjunction with relevant experts from participating members. The SACRM will issue a call for expressions of interest to identify and pre-qualify suitable parties for the project manager role and a call for proposals will follow.

Stakeholders and interested parties in the South African coal industry who would like to participate in the Roadmap process may obtain more information on the Fossil Fuel Foundation website and enquiries should be routed via (projects@fossilfuel.co.za).
