Exxaro Resources
shows interest in
BHP Billiton coal
Johannesburg, South Africa — MININGREVIEW.COM — 25 February 2011 – Exxaro Resources Limited “’ South Africa’s second-largest coal producer “’ has confirmed that it is studying the coal assets which are being offered for sale by mining giant BHP Billiton plc.

“Some of the undeveloped BHP Billiton reserves are near Exxaro’s own projects, and could extend the life of the company’s mines,” general manager for business growth Ernst Venter told reporters in Johannesburg today.

BHP’s South African energy-coal unit revealed last month that it had invited bidders for prospecting rights, saying “other industry members would be better positioned to develop the reserves.

Optimum Coal Holdings Limited “’ another major South African coal producer “’ may also bid for some of the assets, according to CEOMike Teke.
