Johannesburg, South Africa — MININGREVIEW.COM — 27 October 2009 – South African diversified miner Exxaro Resources Limited will be told on Thursday whether members of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) have accepted the coal mining company’s latest wage offer.

Announcing this here, NUM spokesman Lesiba Seshoka said the company had offered to raise pay by between 9 and 11%.

Yesterday the Solidarity union, which represents nearly 1 400 workers at Exxaro’s Tshikondeni, Grootegeluk and Leeuwpan mines, said wage negotiations at Exxaro Coal had been extremely drawn out, and at one point a strike was threatening to be the only way out. However, the union said it was now positive that an agreement was in fact within reach.
