Fatal accident at Merriespruit

Johannesburg, South Africa — MININGREVIEWE.COM — 01 December 2009 – Another fatal accident “’ the second in three days “’ has occurred at Harmony Gold Mining Company’s Merriespruit mine, which is part of the company’s Virginia operations in the Free State.

In a statement released here, the company said a mineworker had lost his life in a tramming accident yesterday. The statement added that management, together with the Department of Mineral Resources, had begun investigations into the cause of the accident.

This was the second fatality reported by the company in the last three days. It followed the death of a mineworker at Harmony’s Elandsrand Mine near Carletonville on Friday after a fall of ground accident.
