Aquarius Platinum has advised that an employee of JV entity Mimosa Platinum in Zimbabwe was fatally injured whilst working underground on 4 January 2016.

The company did not reveal the cause of the accident.

The Aquarius board and management express their sincere condolences to the family of the deceased who will not be named until the next of kin have been informed.

The relevant regulatory authorities have been informed and a full investigation is underway.

Mimosa is located on the Wedza sub-chamber of the southern portion of the Great Dyke in Zimbabwe and is 150 km east of Bulawayo and 32 km from the town of Zvishavane.  The mine is a relatively shallow underground operation (200 m below surface) accessed by a single decline shaft.

A surface concentrator has a monthly processing capacity of 185 000t.  Mimosa is held in a 50:50 joint venture with Impala Platinum and has an off-take agreement with Centametall AG of Switzerland, in terms of which it delivers its concentrate to the Implats smelter for toll processing and refining by Impala Refining Services prior to delivery of metal.
