London, England — MININGREVIEW.COM — 05 February 2010 – Gold Fields Limited “’ the world’s No.4 gold producer and Africa’s second-biggest producer of the metal “’ is still on track to achieve its quarterly gold output target of 1 million ounces, although not as quickly as previously anticipated.

The group posted second-quarter results yesterday showing output of 900 000 ounces, which is down slightly from 906 000 in the previous three months. It has forecast a further and bigger drop to 850 000 ounces in the current quarter to the end of March.

“It’s just taking longer to hit our target, but if I look at all the brownfields opportunities around the group “’ and of course the big increase in production at South Deep “’ we’re in good shape to still hit that target in the medium term,” CEO Nick Holland told Reuters Insider television here.
