Johannesburg, South Africa — MININGREVIEW.COM — 12 April 2010 – Workers at Grootvlei mine “’ owned by Aurora Empowerment Systems “’ were scheduled to return to work this morning following confirmation by the company that it had settled outstanding wages owing to the workforce.
In addition to undertaking to settle all outstanding wages in accordance with terms agreed by organised labour representatives by close of business on Friday, Aurora said it would continue negotiating with organised labour on a proactive basis regarding workforce requirements that would be needed at Grootvlei in future.
Unions involved in the process confirmed that miners would return to work on this morning, following which Grootvlei would resume production. Organised labour have undertaken that no further industrial action will take place at the mine.
Aurora commercial director Sheshile Ngubane said: “We are pleased to have reached a solution on this matter that is acceptable to all parties involved. It will ensure that Aurora can continue to advance its strategic intentions as a marginal mining operation in South Africa. We now look forward to returning to normal operations and production levels at Grootvlei, and will endeavour to continue proactive communication with organised labour representatives in future,” he added.
