Harmony Gold CEO Graham Briggs

Harmony CEO Graham Briggs announced yesterday that he will be retiring as both CEO and member of the Harmony Gold board.

Briggs (62), has had a long and distinguished career in the South African mining industry, including 20 years of service with Harmony, one of South Africa’s largest gold producers. He was appointed as CEO in 2008.

The chairman of Harmony, Patrice Motsepe, extended to Graham the well wishes of the board, adding that “it has been a privilege to work with Graham and we wish to thank him for the valuable contribution he has made to Harmony and the mining industry. The global mining industry is currently experiencing challenging times and we are committed to ensuring that Harmony continues to be a globally competitive company.”

The Harmony board will commence a formal search for the new CEO but Briggs has agreed to remain in the role of CEO until a suitable candidate has been appointed and to ensure a smooth handover.
