IEC launches interactive electricity timeline

The IEC has launched an interactive “Techline” on its website that shows which scientists and inventors made major contributions to the development of electricity and electronics, from Thales in ancient Greece to Tim Berners-Lee today.

Users can also explore it by technologies (such as electroacoustics, insulators, or connectors), by important dates in history, by IEC technical committee in order of creation, or by decade throughout the 20th century. Each timeline gives a different approach to the subject and explains who or what is important. While it is not an exhaustive history of eletrotechnology, it does provide an overview of how this science developed and the role the IEC plays. The launch is part of a series of projects being rolled out by the IEC to celebrate its centennial.
