Lagos, Nigeria — 23 March 2012 – President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria has promised the country’s miners assistance, assuring them that the federal government is committed to creating an enabling environment for the growth of the mining sector.

Represented by minister of mines and steel development Musa Mohammed Sada here at the International Conference of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), he was quoted by allAfrica.com as insisting that the present administration would continue to give priority to the development of infrastructure that would enhance operations in the mining sector.

The president commended the Ministry of Mining for its effort towards the growth of the sector and challenged players in the industry to show greater commitment in revenue generation.

Society president E. O. Esu maintained that the survival of the Nigerian economy depended on natural resources. “The economy of this country depends on natural resources and we are the group trained to work on the geo-resources of the nation. By this we mean minerals, water, oil and gas “’ the economy is completely dependent on these,” added.
