ACEA, Rome’s municipal energy supplier, has chosen Landis+Gyr as technology partner for its large-scale advanced metering roll-out. ACEA will fully implement the solution developed in co-operation with Landis+Gyr by 2009, and will install 1.5 million new electricity meters. The solution enables AMR, the management of loads and customers, and the monitoring and control of the low voltage network. It will be the world’s second largest AMR deployment for residential customers.
The decision follows a successful pilot of 40,000 meters that confirmed full functionality and system stability, significant process improvements and substantially lower process costs. The system received a high level of acceptance from end customers, who are now able to receive information directly via an optional customer terminal, using PLC technology. This allows speedy transfer of information about tariff changes, service work and so on. The customer terminal was developed by BTicino, the third technology partner in the system solution.
