Heavy equipment supplier HPE Africa’s sales consultants say they have noticed an increase in demand for its Hyundai wheel loaders by the South African chrome and platinum mines.
HPE Africa sales representative Jacques De La Port says that the company’s Hyundai wheel loaders in particular are being used extensively across both chrome and platinum mines in South Africa. He adds that the large number is owing to the fact that South Africa boasts close on 90% of the world’s platinum reserves and approximately 73% of the world’s chrome reserves.
“HPE Africa only imports foreign equipment that is able to withstand the rugged and demanding African climate. Over the years, the Hyundai wheel loaders have proven themselves within the mining industry, with some wheel loaders having run for well over 35,000 hours,”
De La Port says. De La Port adds that the machines have low fuel-consumption and minimal emissions. Maintenance and servicing is portable, in that trained service mechanics from HPE Africa can travel to where the machine operates.
HPE Africa’s range of wheel loaders differs in size from its smallest – the 9-tonne HL 730-7A wheel loader – to its biggest, the 30-tonne HL 780- 7A wheel loader. The kW per hour ranges from 93 kW in the HL 730-7A to 250 kW in the HL 780-7A, while the bucket capacity ranges from 1.8 m3 in the HL 730-7A to 5.1 m3 in the HL 780-7A.
Meanwhile, the entire range’s control centre was engineered using 3-D modeling. Up-to-date technology in the form of controller area network (CAN) systems ensure that the engine control unit, transmission control unit and machine control unit all work in sync. The optional ride control system significantly reduces machine bouncing and shock therefore ensuring that driver fatigue is kept to a minimum, while stress on the structure and components of the machine is also significantly reduced.
HPE Africa is not only the sole distributor of Hyundai equipment to the Southern African market, but also has on offer a complete range of excavators, wheel loaders and skid steer loaders to clients in the plant hire, construction, government, mining, demolishing, and materials handling sectors.
