Johannesburg, South Africa — MININGREVIEW.COM — 25 May 2010 – South African-based and JSE-listed Metorex Limited “’ a mid-tier mining group well-known as a base metal operator in Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) “’ has appointed Hester Hickey (56) as an independent non-executive director, and as the chair of the Audit Committee, effective as of 21 May 2010.
Hickey gained extensive executive experience in African mining with AngloGold Ashanti over a period of ten years. For the last two years in that role she held the position of executive officer: head of risk. Additionally, she was chair of SAICA (the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants) for two years, and was previously chair of their Audit, HR and Finance Committees. She also completed two terms over a period of seven years as a member of the Johannesburg municipality audit committee.
Hickey’s previous roles included senior manager: corporate governance at Liberty Life, general manager risk consulting at Marsh South Africa, and a partner at Ernst & Young.
She currently works as a consultant, non-executive director, trustee and audit committee chair for various other organisations.
A statement issued by the company said that the extensive experience in mining, finance, risk management, internal audit and corporate governance that Hickey brought was an essential asset for Metorex and her appointment served to strengthen the independence of the Board.
