Maputo, Mozambique — 08 April 2013 – The Osaka Gas Company “’ Japan’s second largest supplier of domestic gas “’ has identified Mozambique as one of the regions where it plans to invest, according to a company spokesman.
Emphasising Osaka Gas Company’s interest in Mozambique, associate director and director general of the business strategy division Takayuki Tasaka told Macauhub News Agency that the company was also partnering Tokyo Gas to buy liquid natural gas from Mozambique.
Discoveries of natural gas announced so far in Mozambique total 150 trillion cubic feet, which is enough to supply Japan for 35 years. In 2012 Japan imported 87.3Mt of gas.
Japanese group Mitsui & Co, which has a 20% stake in the Area 1 block operated by US group Anadarko Petroleum in the Rovuma Basin, has announced plans to sell at least 5 million tonnes of liquid natural gas from Mozambique to Japanese customers.
