Johannesburg, South Africa — MININGREVIEW.COM — 13 June 2008 – The Board of Sallies Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Fred Roux as non-executive chairman with effect from 1 July 2008. Dr Roux is currently non-executive Chairman of Impala Platinum.

A company announcement issued here says the appointment of Dr. Roux follows an announcement by Sallies CEO Tom Dale earlier this year, that by January 2009 he would separate the roles of chairman and CEO, in terms of good corporate governance,.

Roux joined the JCI Finance Division in 1976 with a BSc, MSc and PhD in Engineering from the University of Cape Town, and an MBA from Cranfield. He gained experience in copper, nickel, gold and platinum, becoming a director, inter alia, of what is now Amplats by 1987, with responsibility for international marketing and corporate strategy.

In 1991 he was recruited by Brian Gilbertson to head the Minerals Division of Genmin, the mining arm of Gencor. He was appointed as an executive director of Gencor in 1995 and was responsible for the transformation of Alusaf, from a loss-making operation to a world class business, and for building a 50% stake in Richards Bay Minerals, a world class titanium dioxide producer co-owned with RTZ.

On resignation from Gencor in 1997 he became a non-executive director of Sudelektra, the forerunner to Xstrata. He was appointed non-executive chairman of Impala Platinum in 2004.
