Johannesburg, South Africa — 19 November 2012 – Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) has announced that production at its South African operations where workers went on an illegal strike until last week, will not resume in the coming week for safety reasons.
Reuters quotes an Amplats statement as saying: “As these operations have been idle for two months it is important to ensure that safety activities are carried out to ensure that working places are made safe,.”
The company has revealed that wildcat action, which ended after the workers finally accepted its pay offer last week, cost it 191,359 ounces of platinum production.
