Johannesburg, South Africa — MININGREVIEW.COM — 26 June 2009 – JSE-listed Northam Platinum Limited – the only fully independent, black-owned and controlled, platinum group metals producer – has appointed three new non-executive directors to the board of the company with effect from 22 June 2009.
Revealing this in a statement released here, the company named the three new directors as Alwyn Martin, Kelello Chabedi and Mikki Xayiva.
Martin is a chartered accountant, and is a founding partner of the country’s first black-owned accounting firm Christian, Martin and Abrahamse. His board positions currently include Petmin Limited, Trans Hex Group Limited and Barnard Jacobs Mellet Holdings Limited.
Chabedi has many years’ experience in the mining industry, having worked in various capacities for Anglo Coal. He currently consults to the industry while lecturing in both opencast and underground mining at the University of the Witwatersrand. Chabedi is a director of Mvelaphanda Resources Limited.
Xayiya is the deputy chairman of Mvelaphanda Holdings (Pty) Limited and Mvelaphanda Group Limited, and serves on the board of Mvela Resources. He has served as a policy advisor at the Office of the Premier in Gauteng Province.
