strike occurred

Johannesburg, South Africa — 29 March 2012 – Impala Platinum Holdings Limited (Implats) “’ the world’s second-largest producer of the precious metal “’ confirms that a meeting was held yesterday between Implats management, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and representatives of the rock drill operators (RDO’s).

A company statement released here last night said that Implats was committed to explore and address the issues that led to the illegal strike of January and February 2012. It was thus with concern that the company noted the NUM’s decision to suspend the latest discussions.

“Implats encourages both the NUM and the RDO’s to engage in on-going dialogue to enable a speedy resolution,” the statement added. “The company also requests the NUM, as the majority union, to communicate with its members and to ensure that due process and protocols are observed.”
