Richards Bay, South Africa — MININGREVIEW.COM — 24 May 2010 – The Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) can export coal for the moment despite the ongoing transport strike in the country, according to its chief executive Raymond Chirwa.

“We have not been affected. We are ok for now,” Chirwa told Reuters, but declined to disclose for how long coal stockpiles at the port would last if the strike continued beyond this week.

The biggest union at Transnet “’ the United Transport and Allied Trade Union (Utatu) “’ signed a new wage deal with the company on Friday and is back at work, but the other union involved in the strike “’ the South African Transport & Allied Workers’ Union (Satawu) “’ has rejected Transnet’s revised wage offer.
