South African coal exports through the Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) rose last month to their highest level since late 2007.
Reporting this here, Bloomberg News quoted the RBCT Website as confirming that its exports for the month of October had amounted to 6.75 million tonnes, compared with 6.77 million tonnes in December 2007.
It added that coal exports through Richards Bay for the year to date had amounted to 49.9 million tonnes, which gave a possible annual rate of 59.8 million tonnes for 2009 as a whole.
A total of 789 trains delivered coal to Richards Bay in October, while 81 ships carried exports overseas. Stock at the terminal at the end of the month amounted to 2.8 million tonnes.
