Johannesburg, South Africa — 23 July 2013 – The world’s biggest platinum producer, Anglo American Platinum Limited (Amplats) halted operations at its Bathopele mine near Rustenburg after a rock fall that left two workers trapped, reports Fin24 citing state broadcaster the SABC.

More than 2,000 mineworkers had been sent home, the SABC reported. “At this stage we are busy with a rescue mission,” the broadcaster quoted company spokesperson Thabisile Phumo as saying.
