Richards Bay, South Africa — 09 October 2012 – South African coal exports through the Richards Bay coal terminal last month dropped more than 11% below their level in August.
A statement released by the Richards Bay Coal Terminal revealed that it exported 5.24 million tonnes of coal in September, down from 5.9 million tonnes the previous month.
Reuters reports that Africa’s biggest economy “’ a major exporter of coal to power stations in Europe and Asia “’ had 3.95 million tonnes of coal stocks at the terminal at the end of September. Coal producers in South Africa include Anglo American, BHP Billiton, Exxaro and Xstrata.
