Sandvik signs US$100 million SA order for Sasol

Stockholm, Sweden — 04 January 2013 – Sandvik Mining “’ part of the international Sandvik Group which has business activities in 130 countries “’ has signed a mining systems contract with Sasol Mining (Pty) Ltd for the Shondoni mine materials handling project in South Africa.

Announcing this in a statement released here, the company said that the value of the contract was approximately US$100 million, and would contribute to Sandvik Mining’s business during the years 2013 to 2015.

The order entails the supply of materials handling systems, both underground and surface, for a new coal mine. The scope of supply includes engineering design, procurement and construction for the Shondoni mine materials handling system, the statement added.

Sandvik Mining business area president Gary Hughes commented: “The size and complexity of this system and the fact that Sandvik provides a complete integrated mining system of Sandvik surface and underground mining equipment, again demonstrates our capability to deliver wide-ranging high-tech solutions in the area of continuous mining and materials handling applications.”
