Johannesburg, South Africa — MININGREVIEW.COM — 12 March, 2008 – Tramming operations have been resumed at Simmer& Jack’s Buffelsfontein Mine in the North West Province, following a weekend locomotive accident which claimed the life of one mineworker.
All tramming had been halted pending an investigation of the incident, which took place at the mine’s number two shaft. Chief operating officer Deon van der Mescht says tramming resumed late on Monday night, allowing the mine to resume loading and transporting of underground ore.
This was the second fatal accident at Buffelsfontein this year. The mine was closed temporarily in January after one worker died and four were injured following an earth tremor.
