Gold Fields’
South Deep mine

Johannesburg, South Africa — MININGREVIEW.COM — 25 October 2010 – Gold Fields Limited “’ the world’s fourth-largest listed gold miner “’ has announced that the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) members at its South Deep mine will go strike tomorrow, following a fight over employee-management relations.

The company said in a statement here that the dispute concerned failure to reach full agreement over NUM demands to participate in certain decision-making processes that Gold Fields views primarily as management prerogative.”

Gold Fields is seeking an interdict against the strike, and the company says it has made the necessary arrangements to mitigate the impact of the action if it fails to obtain the interdict.
