Johannesburg, South Africa — MININGREVIEW.COM — 06 May 2010 – Simmer & Jack Mines reports that a fall of ground at its Buffelsfontein gold mine in the North West Province has claimed the lives of three employees who were trapped underground.

A statement released by the company confirmed that mine overseer, Johannes Hendrik Naude (43) of Klerksdorp and shift bosses Adriaan JP Zietsman (37) of Orkney and Steven Grobbelaar (24), of Klerksdorp, died following a fall of ground that took place at the mine’s Number Five Shaft, on 27 level.

The men were engaged in a routine inspection at the time of the incident.

The Simmers announcement added that the mine’s Number Five Shaft would remain closed pending an investigation into the incident.
