Johannesburg, South Africa — 20 November 2012 – Junior South African gold mining company Village Main Reef has revealed that it may cut up to 960 jobs at its Blyvoor mine because of reduced earnings and profits in the wake of strikes.
IOL quotes analysts as saying that they expect mining companies to cut jobs, partly because of lost profits and production from the strikes.
Workers at Blyvoor went on an illegal 3-week strike that ended in October “’ part of a wave of wildcat action in South Africa’s gold and platinum mines.
