Wescoal Mining starts mining at Elandspruit

JSE-listed Wescoal Mining has started mining activities at its Elandspruit mine in Mpumalanga and will produce its first run-of-mine (RoM) during July 2015, acting CEO Waheed Sulaiman said on Thursday.

Wescoal Mining has appointed Diesel Power Open Cast Mining as the mining contractor for Elandspruit.

The mining division is on track to produce approximately 335 000 tpm of RoM during the final quarter of the current financial year, which is equivalent to approximately 4 million t of RoM on an annualised basis.

The junior coal miner and supplier was granted a water use licence for the project in April.
