Johannesburg, South Africa — MININGREVIEW.COM — 04 November 2009 – Mike Solomon “’ the CEO of emerging new generation platinum miner Wesizwe Platinum Limited “’ has vowed to fight a board decision to have him fired.

“I think it was in bad faith and unlawful,” Solomon told Miningmx in a telephonic interview.

Yesterday Wesizwe Platinum announced that Solomon and non-executive director, and former acting chairman, Robert Rainey, had been served written notice to relinquish their positions with immediate effect.

Nyasha Tengawarima “’ currently financial director of Wesizwe Platinum “’ would be acting CEO until the board had identified “a suitable replacement”, the company said.

The exact nature of Solomon’s position, however, has been thrown into doubt: “The board has agreed not to make my removal effective, pending litigation,” he told Miningmx.

There was also the possibility of more board disruptions, with the Wesizwe Platinum announcement stating “… further announcements regarding the re-constitution of the board would be made in due course”.

Solomon said he had received written notice of his firing after four of the seven directors had voted in favour of his dismissal. He declined to comment on whether the action was related to ill health or his possible opposition to a takeover deal. “I really am not at liberty to say,” said Solomon. “I can’t comment on rumours about my ill health.”
