Zambian copper production keeps rising

Lusaka, Zambia — MININGREVIEW.COM — 10 November 2009 – Zambia’s copper production for the first nine months of 2009 rose from 429 792 tonnes to 514 320 tonnes “’ a 20% improvement on output for the same period last year.

Announcing this in a statement issued here, the country’s central bank said copper exports in the period under review had risen by more than 20% “’ to 496 111 tonnes from 411 533 tonnes in 2008.

The Bank of Zambia statement added that cobalt output had dropped to 2 816 tonnes from 3 526 tonnes in the corresponding period last year “’ a decrease of more than 20%. Exports had fallen by only 7.5% to 3 225 tonnes from 3 488 tonnes.
