Lusaka, Zambia — MININGREVIEW.COM — 15 November 2010 – Copper production in Zambia “’ Africa’s top producer of the metal “’ rose 21% to 625 844t in the period from January to September 2010, compared with 517 512t in the first nine months of last year.
Releasing these figures here, the Bank of Zambia added that copper exports had risen to 614 455t in the first three quarters of 2010 compared with 497 905t in the same period of 2009. This was and increase of close to 25%,” the central bank’s head of public relations Kanguya Mayondi told Reuters.
He added that cobalt production had risen to 6 362t in the first nine months of 2010 from 3 983t in the same period of last year, and exports had risen to 6 236t in 2010 from 3 987t in 2009. These both represented sharp increases of close to 60%.
