Zest has grown from its small beginnings as an electric motor supplier to become a much larger organisation, made up of a number of companies and divisions. These provide the spectrum of supply from electric motors to variable speed drives, soft starters, low voltage switchgear, to power transformers, diesel generator sets, motor control centres and power cables. These products will be on display at Zest’s stand at Electra Mining in September.
The Zest Group comprises Zest Electric Motors; Shaw Controls; IMS Cape; Industrial Cable Suppliers; and Electric Motors Laminations (EML).
The sole southern African WEG distributor, Zest Electric Motors is one of the largest privately owned BEE companies in its sector with 26% of its shareholding owned by Medu Capital. The company has the widest range and largest stockholding of electric motors in Africa; soft starters and variable speed drives up to 1,000 kW and in voltage supply up to 4.1 kV; power transformers from five to 200 MVA; low voltage switchgear including contactors, overloads, starters, push buttons and indication lights.
Industrial Cable Suppliers is a supplier of SABS approved, locally manufactured and imported wire and cable. IMS Cape manufactures locally designed and custom built generator sets in the 40 to 2,000 kVA range, and is also a stockist of imported generator sets in the 40 to 175 kVA range.
Complementing this range are the competitively priced, high quality DUTCHI motors from Electric Motors Laminations (EML) and the motor control centres, distribution boards, control desks and containerised sub stations manufactured by Shaw Controls.
Extensive research and development is a primary characteristic of WEG and the Zest stand will showcase some of these latest generation product developments including the WEG CFW-11 modular VFD which extends the line benefits up to 2,000 kW motors.
Also on display will be WEG’s future design “W22” motor which incorporates several features to achieve levels of efficiency of the highest standard for general purpose motors in industrial and mining use.
Together with its large presence in South Africa, the company has an extensive reach into Africa in terms of its product reference base as well as being able to provide support for customers across the borders into the sub-Saharan region with an extensive installed base of products in countries including Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, DRC, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho, Mali, Mauritania, Namibia, Nigeria, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
