Number Four shaft at
Blanket, one of several
Zimbabwean mines that
resumed operations in
2009

Harare, Zimbabwe — MININGREVIEW.COM — 06 January 2010 – The government of Zimbabwe has announced that it expects the country’s mining production to increase by 30% this year.

Local daily newspaper The Herald reported this revelation here, quoting the Zimbabwean mining secretary Thankful Musukutwa.

The newspaper pointed out that the majority of the country’s mines that had been closed during the southern African nation’s decade-long recession had now re- opened. It did not, however, give a figure for Zimbabwean mining output in 2009, the year in which several Zimbabwean mines resumed operations.
