Avenira has started a global search for a new MD as current MD Cliff Lawrenson will leave the company, a phosphate developer, early next year.
Following the completion of the development of the Baobab phosphate project in Senegal, the board of Avenira and Lawrenson believe that a greater regional presence is required to drive the ramp-up to full production and accelerate the company’s product marketing strategy.
Dr Christopher Pointon, deputy chairman of Avenira says: ‘‘Cliff has done a tremendous job in the past four years in restructuring the company, establishing a strong team and delivering Avenira’s strategy of identifying an early production opportunity and bringing it to fruition.
“Now that we are moving to the next phase of growth, we agree that it is a good time to transition to someone who can spend considerably more time in the region on operations and marketing.”
Pointon added the board is confident that, given the tremendous progress Avenira has made in establishing itself as an emerging producer in the nutrient space, Avenira will attract a strong field of potential candidates.
Lawrenson is leaving Avenira extremely well-positioned and will continue to lead the company up to the end of January to ensure a smooth transition. “The board wishes Cliff all the best for the future,” says Pointon.
Lawrenson said that an outstanding team, a clear strategy, a strong board and supportive shareholders have all contributed to Avenira’s success. The company has built a solid base from which to grow and to fully deliver the next phase, there is no doubt that a greater regional presence is needed.
