Liberia – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia has approved the Scoping Report and Terms of Reference report for an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for ASX/JSE-listed iron ore junior Tawana Resources’ Mofe Creek iron ore project.
This approval represents a key step forward in the ESIA process, and forms part of Tawana’s commitment to obtaining an environmental permit and mining licence for the project.
The approval represents the culmination of over a year’s technical and geological field work in conjunction with community and stakeholder consultative work within the project area. Tawana engaged two accredited consultants, international consultancy Earth Systems and Liberian-based consultancy Earth Environmental Consultancy to prepare the Scoping Report and Terms of Reference, in line with relevant Liberian environmental and EIA regulations.
“We recognise that securing the permits necessary for the establishment of operations at Mofe Creek is critical to our commitment to rapidly advance the project towards development. Obtaining this latest approval from the EPA, again in such a short time-frame, marks another important step forward in the overall permitting process,” says Tawana Resources Executive Chairman and CEO Wayne Richards.
The key milestones achieved at Mofe Creek to date include the completion of a scoping Study, the announcement of a maiden resource estimate announced, the commencement of the prefeasibility study
A Mineral Development Application has also been made and is progressing well while resource mapping and prioritisation of drilling targets on both tenements is being assessed.
